NK Cells: First Strike
NK细胞是免疫系统的快速反应部队——它们无需等待指令便会采取行动。
编辑部精选 · 一分钟理解
Most immune cells need to verify an intruder's identity before deciding whether to attack. NK cells don't.
NK stands for Natural Killer. Rather than identifying who the enemy is, NK cells check whether a cell is behaving abnormally. If a cell looks wrong — infected by a virus, or beginning to turn cancerous — an NK cell acts immediately. No orders required.
This makes NK cells your fastest first line of defense against viral infection and early malignant transformation. But their activity declines roughly fifteen to twenty percent per decade after forty — one of the core immunological explanations for rising cancer risk with age.
核心要点
01
NK cells don't rely on recognizing specific antigens — they use 'Missing Self' (MHC-I reduced/absent) and 'stress signals' (NKG2D ligands appearing) to detect abnormal cells, with response times measured in hours, not days.
02
NK cells participate daily in clearing thousands of early cancer cells — invisible, continuous cancer surveillance, the fastest line of defense you have.
03
Prospective research confirms: people with lower NK cell activity have significantly higher subsequent cancer risk — making NK cell activity a more direct cancer-risk-related immune indicator than CRP.
04
NK cell activity falls approximately fifteen to twenty percent per decade; by sixty, cumulative decline is thirty to forty percent — a central immunological explanation for sharply rising cancer incidence after fifty.
05
Regular aerobic exercise (one hundred fifty minutes per week) is the most well-evidenced intervention for maintaining NK cell activity — with documented twenty-five to forty percent higher activity in long-term exercisers versus sedentary age-matched peers.
