I'm forty — can my thymic function still improve?
Current medical tools haven't yet demonstrated a clinically validated means of significantly improving thymic function in healthy forty-year-olds. But exercise (especially aerobic exercise) has been shown to slow thymic atrophy rate and maintain peripheral naive T cell levels — with benefits at any age of starting, though earlier is better for cumulative effect.
Are T cell transplants or infusions a viable intervention?
In cancer treatment, multiple T cell therapies (CAR-T, TIL therapy, TCR-T therapy) are in clinical use for specific tumor antigens. For healthy individuals with anti-aging intent, there's no validated T cell infusion intervention — not only because of technical barriers, but because infusing another person's T cells carries risks of immune rejection and graft-versus-host disease (GVHD).
Do children's superior thymic function explain why they handle novel viruses better?
Yes — this is one of the immunological bases for children typically experiencing milder illness from many novel infections (including most COVID-19 variants). Children have abundant naive T cell reserves and TCR diversity at its peak, allowing rapid first responses to novel antigens. But children's immune systems are also immature in other dimensions (immune regulation, memory response speed), giving them specific vulnerabilities against certain pathogens.
Are there side effects of supplementing growth hormone?
Recombinant growth hormone is approved for growth hormone deficiency in medical settings. For 'anti-aging' purposes in healthy adults, it's not an approved indication and carries known risks: insulin resistance, edema, joint pain, and potentially cancer-promoting effects (the GH-IGF-1 axis over-activation is associated with some cancer risks). The TRIIM trial used a small-dose combined protocol — this doesn't mean GH can be extrapolated to self-administration. Professional medical supervision and discussion is the only appropriate path.
