Have you ever wondered how the immune system finds a virus — something so small it's invisible?
It uses two approaches. Outside cells: pattern recognition receptors detect molecular signatures unique to viruses. Inside cells: infected cells display viral protein fragments on their surface — a molecular SOS signal that T cells are trained to read.
This recognition system is extraordinarily precise. But viruses are continuously evolving to evade it. The result is an endless arms race played out at the molecular scale.
