Can telomere length be lengthened?
Telomerase can lengthen telomeres, but its activity is very low in most somatic cells (cancer cells show abnormally elevated telomerase activity, the reason cancer cells can replicate indefinitely). Lifestyle interventions (regular exercise, reducing chronic stress, Mediterranean diet) can measurably slow telomere shortening rate; some studies show certain interventions (such as mindfulness-based stress reduction programs) are associated with mild telomere length increases, but the effect size is small. Directly extending telomeres with telomerase activators (such as TA-65) has very limited evidence and carries theoretical cancer-promoting risk from excessive activation. Caution is warranted.
Are Senolytics available? Do they work?
Natural senolytic candidate Quercetin is available as a nutritional supplement. The most clinically evidenced Senolytic protocol (Dasatinib+Quercetin) includes Dasatinib, a prescription anti-cancer drug not appropriate for self-administration. Multiple small-scale human clinical trials (for idiopathic pulmonary fibrosis, diabetic kidney disease, prodromal Alzheimer's, and others) have shown safety and partial functional improvement signals — but haven't yet entered mainstream clinical recommendations. Physician-guided discussion is the most reasonable approach.
Where can DNA methylation clock testing be done? Is it expensive?
Currently primarily through functional medicine clinics and longevity medicine institutions (such as Human Longevity Inc., TrueDiagnostic in the US). Prices typically range from three hundred to six hundred US dollars (approximately two thousand to four thousand RMB). In Asia, some precision medicine institutions are beginning to offer similar testing services. Prices are falling as demand increases and technology matures; broader access is expected within three to five years.
If my aging marker numbers are poor, does that mean it's too late to reverse?
No. Aging markers reflect the current accumulated state, but this state is dynamic — lifestyle changes can produce measurable improvement in some markers (such as hs-CRP, LTL shortening rate, methylation clock speed) within weeks to months. More importantly: people with worse markers often have the most to gain from intervention. Knowing your numbers and making targeted changes is better than not knowing. The sooner you start, the greater the recovery window.
