Care Framework & Diagram
Tumors aren't isolated cell masses — they're ecosystems that actively shape their surrounding world
By the Editors Care Framework & Diagram
1
Cellular
The tumor recruits nearby immune cells and turns them into suppressors instead of attackers.
2
Physical
Support cells build dense collagen walls that physically trap T cells at the tumor’s edge.
3
Metabolic
Low oxygen, low pH, and no glucose inside the tumor starve and disable immune cells.
4
Chemical
The tumor converts a common energy molecule into adenosine, which acts like an anesthetic on immune cells.
Hot vs. Cold Tumors
- Hot tumors already have T cells present, just blocked — checkpoint inhibitors work well.
- Cold tumors have no T cells at all — they must be recruited first, via radiation, a virus, or a vaccine.
